The Late Mannerist building of the Linz Castle Museum accommodates the cultural studies collections of the Upper Austrian Provincial Museums (art from the Middle Ages to the modern period: gothic art, 19^th century paintings, and applied art, as well as historical music instruments, numismatics, folklore, technology history and archaeology).

The Castle Museum of Linz represents the special cultural-property archive of the province of Upper Austria and is the scene of multifaceted regional-studies research in the humanities.

The permanent exhibitions provide a trip through the cultural history of Upper Austria. In addition there are large annual exhibitions, which concern themselves with regional studies and international topics (the emphasis is on ethnology, art and cultural history), as well as smaller presentations from the holdings of the house.
